“Pay for prayer?” & lots of steps

Yes, there are a lot of steps from one Congressman’s office to another around Capital Hill in DC. Recently, I believe, I touched them all and wore off plenty of shoe-leather. There’s also, I’m finding, a lot of steps required in correcting misconceptions regarding spiritual care as practiced in Christian Science.

One of the first female chaplains ever called to active duty, Retired Colonel Janet Horton has had some pretty intense experiences both on and off the field. Currently, Horton is the Christian Science Military Chaplain Endorsing Agent for The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston. 9/11. Its a simple symbol made of four quick touches of the keyboard. Yet, what this simple symbol represents still weighs heavy on sad hearts and minds. To some it means courage. To others, vulnerability, fear, uncertainty, and sorrow. Yet, there is another symbol. A symbol, I’ve found, that can help.
